Rebecca Wherlock was listed on the website as the sole trader of Haskins Legal – which had originally been set up by Felicity Haskins, before she retired from the practice.

A shock announcement, made late in the day on Friday 26 October, said the law firm had closed with immediate effect, following a court hearing that afternoon.

A statement issued then by HM Procureur on behalf of herself and the Batonnier, on behalf of the Guernsey Bar, read:

“Haskins Legal is now closed with effect from 26 October 2018. A Commissioner has been appointed by the Royal Court and any person with queries should, in the first instance, contact Mr Jamie Toynton at Grant Thornton on 753400.”

Initially, no further information was forthcoming, despite Express making a number of enquires. Grant Thornton said they had no further information to the above they could share publicly, when the news was first announced.

Since then it’s now been confirmed that Jurat Stephen Jones OBE has been appointed as Commissioner and will be “overseeing the Court’s intervention in the legal practice of Rebecca Wherlock trading as Haskins Legal.”

It’s also been confirmed that any clients of Haskins Legal are being transferred to alternate Advocates who will look after their interests going forward.

Any clients who have not yet been transferred to new representation should contact Grant Thornton “as a matter of urgency.”

Jamie Toynton, as the Insolvency Practitioner, can be contacted via Haskinslegal@gt-ci.com.
