The scale of the damage at La Coupée can be revealed today as an Express reporter visited the scene to meet the engineers working to repair the stricken wall.

The wall on the southern side of La Coupée – nearest Little Sark – collapsed last week after the rock beneath it fell away.

The Seigneur told Express at the weekend that the wall dates back to the 1870s and he is unsure when the crossing itself was last surveyed.

Rock fall last January led to calls for a survey to be carried out but it’s understood that hasn’t happened.

This week specialist engineers are in Sark to carry out the immediate remedial work needed to make the crossing safe and to enable access to Little Sark again.

The workers include staff from Geomarine in Guernsey and a five-man team of rope access specialists who are using reinforced concrete and anchor pins to fix the damage.

Express reporter Luke Webb travelled to Sark today to see the damage firsthand.

His full report will follow tomorrow with more photos and videos taken from the scene.
