GSC says they need to be taken down in the interest of public safety.
But, the committee also wants to ensure the site is earmarked for housing once the old buildings are knocked down.

It was decided the houses would be demolished earlier this year – 16 years after a survey first identified them as being “unsafe” and recommended that it was “uneconomical” to repair them.
The terraced properties were built in the mid-19th century but fell into an irreversible state of disrepair some years ago according to documents dating back nearly two decades.
Numbers 1 – 5 Whitegates were part of the States of Alderney Social Housing Portfolio, until they were transferred to the Alderney Housing Association (AHA) in 2010.
They were already know to be suffering from some age related problems by then, after a 2008 survey of the properties at Whitegates deemed them to be in an “extremely poor condition”.
A budget of £125,000 has already been agreed to demolish the properties and to make the area safe.
An exploratory development scheme for Whitegates has been drawn up to safeguard the development of the site for housing in the future given its designation in the current Land Use Plan.
The GCS cautions that this scheme is not a formal proposal.
