Gorean is an “incredibly talented” watercolourist who was Art for Guernsey’s first artist in residence back in 2016.

‘Winter with Gorean’ will be on display until 20 January and is the result of many years of hard work. There are several series on display, including interior scenes and pieces inspired by the post-pandemic world.

“These series of paintings describe a decline of the postmodern and post-pandemic world, where utopian ideas, social controversies, satire and quotes can be found, all made through a traditional pictorial language,” said Eugene.

“The paintings dedicated to these islands have a special place in my heart, as do the beauty of the landscape and the beauty of the people I have met here. The Guernsey series was inspired by the symbols of the island, by its history and architecture; I tried to present what Guernsey looks like in winter in my vision. I don’t paint what I see, I paint my dreams and imagination.”

The Founder of Art for Guernsey, David Ummels, said Eugene has a special relationship with the organisation.

“Over the years, Eugen has been an incredible ambassador for Guernsey, showing pictures of our cliffs and seascapes in famous museums or within the European Parliaments,” he said.

“He also invented a ‘Guernsey green’ to capture the brightness of our grass, which his art manufacturer is now producing and distributing across the world. It is hard to describe how, technically and artistically, Eugen has progressed and matured since he last came to the island.

“He has established himself as a global artist and in my opinion is one of the best watercolourists in the world. So I can’t wait to welcome him back and spend the ‘Winter with Gorean’. The show will simply be one of a kind and an experience that islanders should not miss.”
