A 100-metre woodland walk featuring “artistic elements and installations” could be created next to a green lane in St Martin as part of a developer’s proposal to build 30 affordable homes on a nearby field.
Under plans from developer Dandara and architects MS Planning, the proposal would create 12 two- and 18 three-bedroom homes – described as “family” and “right-sizing” units – in a field next to the Catholic Church.
The site, a former green zone off La Rue des Buttes, was rezoned for affordable housing in 2022 under the Bridging Island Plan – the framework that guides all planning decisions.

Each property would have a private garden, cycle storage and one parking space.
According to planning documents, the scheme aims to address “the Island’s immediate housing need” and has been designed to remain in keeping with the “rural character” of the area.
As part of a policy that requires developers to contribute around 1% of construction costs toward public art, around £30,000 would go toward creating a 108m woodland walk along the western boundary of the site.
Designed by play consultant Emily Jennings, the route would include benches and play equipment, including a willow playhouse, swing rope balancer and timber play logs.
A supporting statement submitted with the application describes the proposal as “a playful woodland trail along the new public pedestrian route, designed to enrich the local environment and public experience”.
It continues: “This trail will feature artistic elements and installations aimed at sparking curiosity and excitement. It will enhance the adjacent green lane by providing an interactive and imaginative space, particularly welcoming for families with children and dog walkers.”
The statement adds: “A meandering path will be carefully installed between trees and hedge lines. This path will incorporate naturalistic play features and artistic installations, offering moments of interest and engagement along its course.”
