A chartered accountant has been found guilty of changing financial records to help one of his clients pay less tax.

John Asplet was found guilty of recklessly providing false information to the tax authorities in Jersey.

The verdict was delivered by the inferior number of the Royal Court on Friday after a four-day trial.

The court found that Asplet had altered financial records to reduce the tax liability of one of his clients.

This was discovered during a tax audit by Revenue Jersey, and then referred to the Joint Financial Crimes Unit of the States of Jersey Police.

Asplet will be sentenced on 26 August 2025.
