Earlier this week, the potato suppliers made a formal application to the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority over the potential acquisition.
A statement released by Tim Ward, Jersey Operations Director of Albert Bartlett, said: “Consolidation of the island’s leading producers is seen by both businesses as key to delivering a sustainable future for the famous Jersey Royal product and continuing to deliver great product for consumers.”
Mr Ward’s statement acknowledged that the sale of the Jersey Royal Company to Albert Bartlett – whose head office is in the Scottish town of Airdrie – would be subject to regulatory approval.
The JCRA has invited comments on the proposed transaction by 17:00 on 29 January.
Albert Bartlett have packed and marketed Jersey potatoes for several generations and had their own packing and growing infrastructure on the island since 2008.
The Jersey Royal Company – which was consolidated into its current model as a grower and packer of potatoes more than 20 years ago – was purchased by UK-based Produce Investments in 2014.
