Every week, Express presents a selection of exhibitions, performances, workshops, events and other historic, creative and delicious content to help islanders get their weekly dose of culture.

Here’s this week’s offering, from classics of rock and theatre to a celebration of contemporary artists on all sides of the Channel…

The Channel Islands in art

The second edition of the Channel Islands Contemporary Art Show is due to start on Friday 20 March, showcasing 17 artists from the Channel Islands, Brittany and the UK.

Motifs from Jersey and Madeira folklore, St Peter Port’s town church, and environmental change in the sea all provided inspiration to the artists on display.

The show “brings into focus different experiences of the Channel Islands, from both familiar landscapes to the more interior, emotional spaces of feeling, cultural hybridity and how this can be translated into complex, layered and extraordinary paintings, sculptures and drawings,” according to ArtHouse Jersey’s head of programme, James Tyson.

The Channel Islands Contemporary Art Show will be open at ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House, from Friday 20 March to Sunday 3 May 2026, 12pm to 6pm (closed Mondays).

Artist talks will take place on Sunday 21 March, Thursday 9 April and Saturday 25 April.

Classic rock-stalgia

Russian wit

Continuing on the theme of classics, Jersey Arts Centre’s youtheatre is presenting the Gogol play The Government Inspector at Jersey Arts Centre.

Described as “one of the most famous comedies in world theatre”, this satire follows the corrupt officials of a small town who discover a government inspector is about to visit – prompting them to desperately try and cover their tracks.

The performances are due to take place at 7pm on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 February.

Tickets are available on the Jersey Arts Centre website.
