Each week, Express presents a selection of exhibitions, performances, workshops, events and other historic, creative and delicious content to help islanders get their weekly dose of culture.
Here’s this week’s offering…
Surfs up! A century of surfing

Jersey Heritage is celebrating a century of surfing in Jersey with a new display at the Maritime Museum.
Islanders are invited to discover Jersey’s surfing heritage, from international competitions to sustainable board designs.
‘Wave Riders: a century of surfing’ is open daily, usual entry fees for the Maritime Museum apply, children under six and members go free.
88 Bunkface launch party

Local pop-punk band 88 Bunkface are inviting music lovers to St James Wine Bar this weekend in celebration of the release of their new album.
Islanders can enjoy the launch party with supporting act Kickbacks, as the new debut album ‘Infinitely Better Than Nothing’, is now available to stream everywhere, with a limited stock of vinyl available to purchase.
The event will take place on Saturday 31 January 2025, and starts at 9pm with a £5 entry fee.
Tongue Twisters

Islanders keen to improve on their knowledge of Jèrriais are invited to come down and follow a family-friendly trail around Hamptonne Country Life Museum.
Collect a map on arrival and see if you can find the missing Jèrriais words as you wander around the historic grounds. Participants that can work out how to ask for chicken food in Jèrriais can claim a free bag of seed for the hens.
The trail will end at 2:30pm, with a cup of hot chocolate for the children who took part. Hamptonne café will be open as usual if you wish to purchase additional refreshments.
‘Tongue Twisters’ is recommended for children aged 6-10 years old, but all are welcome.
Tickets can be purchased HERE.
Explore Batterie Lothringen

Islanders can visit the impressive multi-floored restored M-132 Underground Command Bunker, which served as the ‘eyes’ for the Naval Coastal Artillery Battery that sat behind it, this weekend.
The bunker can be found at the lower car park at Noirmont Point, with free parking – the best bus route is the 12a.
Follow a series of paths around the site and explore many of the open bunkers and reach MP-1 Naval Artillery Direction and Range-finding Tower and the top of the M-132 Underground Command Bunker.
Visitors will also find the Jersey War Tours pop-up shop, with militaria for sale, and get ‘hands-on’ with WW2 equipment.
