Barrister Mark McDonald is visiting Guernsey and will be in conversation with journalist Matt Fallaize to talk about his claims that former nurse Lucy Letby is innocent.
Mr Mcdonald stated: “The case against Lucy was built around evidence from doctors. There was no direct evidence, no-one saw Lucy do anything wrong and if the new defence experts are right, no crime was ever committed.”
Letby was convicted of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six more while she was employed at the Countess of Chester Hospital in England between 2015 and 2016.
Letby was also found guilty of a further count of attempted murder during a retrial last year. She has been given a whole life prison sentence.
Since then the evidence given by the expert witnesses who worked for the prosecution in Lucy Letby’s trial has come under the spotlight, after a group of globally renowned medical experts concluded that no murders took place at all.
The review, published in February this year, cast doubt on the conclusions drawn by key prosecution witnesses, including Dr Dewi Evans and Dr Sandie Bohin – the latter a Guernsey-based paediatrician – who testified that the babies’ deaths were intentional.
Dr Bohin has previously defended her suitability as an expert witness in the case.

Mr McDonald claims Letby is innocent, and the victim of a “flawed justice system”.
“So is this the biggest miscarriage in the history of our criminal justice system or is Lucy guilty of the most appalling of crimes?” he questioned.
“I will talk about this new evidence, why I feel she is innocent and how she has been let down by a deeply flawed justice system.”
The event will be held at Les Cotils in Harry Bound Room from 18:30 to 20:00 on 30 October with tickets available on Eventbrite.
