Bulldozers have cleared the beach of the sea lettuce that has plagued it all season. A build-up of sand and stones which the departments claim threatened to undermine the sea defences has also been removed.
According to local Deputy Andrew Lewis, “…nearby residents and in particular the owner of the Lookout Café were dismayed by the apparent inaction of the Infrastructure department to restore the beach at First Tower. But it wasn’t until the department consulted fully with residents that a solution was implemented.”
Deputy Lewis hopes “in future the government will be more receptive to the views of those most affected”.

The festive cheer though is likely to be short lived. Sea lettuce has become an annual blight and despite repeated efforts to solve the problem no long lasting solution has so far been found.
