English contemporary artist Damien Hirst’s ‘Butterfly Empress’ exhibition will be on display at JARO Gallery on York Street from this weekend.

He became famous for a series of artworks in which dead animals – including a shark, a sheep, and a cow – were preserved in formaldehyde.

Hirst is reportedly the United Kingdom’s richest living artist, with his wealth estimated at $384 million in the Sunday Times Rich List 2020.

His new collection aims to explore themes of freedom, religion, life, and death through kaleidoscope-like patterns and butterfly imagery.

Hirst’s ‘Butterfly Empress’ works are part of an NFT collection produced by the artist in collaboration with London-based art and technology company Heni in early 2022.

JARO Gallery will also display Hirst’s circular spin paintings, which are known for their energetic splashes of colour.

The Turner Prize-winning British artist will be exhibited alongside local artist Bluntroller, and two London-based artists Mr Controversial and Opake.

Mr Controversial aims to create striking and satirical artwork featuring bold societal commentary, while Opake brings a street art aesthetic with graffiti-inspired works that aim to blend urban culture and comic-style elements.
