A “magical” dance show is taking place next weekend to fundraise for a charity that supported a family in the dance community during “challenging times”.
The show, titled ‘That’s Entertainment’, will be running at Haute Vallée school theatre on 7 and 8 February, at noon and 5pm on both days.
It will feature over 160 dancers between the ages of three and 18 from the Emma Jane Dance Academy, including its budding ballerinas, who will be making their stage debut.
The routines have been choreographed by their “wonderful team of teachers”: Miss Emma, Miss Kate, Miss Kira, and Miss Anna.
According to Emma Jane, principal of the academy, the performances will “whisk you into a wonderful world of the unexpected, from spooky ghosts to sparkling disco, superheroes, and a magical world of make-belief”.
She told Express that the pieces take inspiration from the genres ballet, tap, modern, musical theatre, jazz, acro, lyrical, and street dance.
Costumes will range from sparkly Broadway jazz to classical ballet tutus, including their very own custom-made American Cheer kits.
The show is raising money for CLIC Sargent Jersey, an independent, local charity that helps ensure that young people with cancer and their families receive the support they need.
The school chose to raise money for this charity in particular because “they have been helping a family from our dance community”, Ms Jane said.
“They have offered help and support to them during challenging times, and we wish to try and give something back,” she explained.
The performance is also a “wonderful opportunity” to showcase the dancers’ “hard work and talents”, she added.
