The Havre des Pas venue said it was “thrilled” about the “permanent and publicly accessible” life-saving installation.

“After the very sad loss of an elderly visitor last year, we requested that a unit was installed onsite,” the Lido team continued.

“We hope that this is never put to use, but if it is ever needed, it is there to save a life in the future.”

It’s one of a number of more recent upgrades to the Lido, which in April secured the support of States Members to have its leaks fixed and its toilets kept open year-round.

All politicians supported a proposal by Constable Simon Crowcroft to set up a ‘steering group’ of politicians, residents, the current operator of the café/event venue and other interested parties to “maximise the benefit of the lido to the community and to resolve any issues arising in future”.
