St Helier representative Deputy Lyndsay Feltham’s comments came as Safe Haven Church Jersey, which is part of the ministry of St Paul’s Church, announced that it was now running a small food bank.
Peter Le Gal, one of the organisers, said: “We are holding a service fortnightly at Springfield School and wanted to offer a small food-share provision where people can give and receive food in that space.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Lyndsay Feltham – who recently became Social Security Minister – has said she would be visiting food banks soon to find out more about the challenges they are facing.

“It’s really important for me as the incoming Social Security Minister to hear from those running the food banks,” she explained, adding that there were “more and more popping up” throughout the island.
“Nobody should be put in that position.”
