The term ‘dDeaf’ is used as it is inclusive of both those who are hard of hearing (deaf) and those who are profoundly Deaf.

Indie Correia was this year’s winner, nominated by mum Kerri Correia and the Hearing and Deaf Support Team for his GCSE achievements which included a top grade 9.
The nominations were judged by a third-party group who found Indie’s perseverance through GCSEs “outstanding”, especially because he had to overcome brain disease encephalitis which placed him into a coma at the beginning of his GCSE journey.

In honour of the charity’s 50th anniversary, Earsay also presented a one-off award to recognise a child of dDeaf adult, who is a valued member of the charity.
This award was presented to Holly Noel (21) for her work championing the dDeaf community, and the help she has provided to children at Earsay.
