Senator-elect Ferguson lost her seat in the 2014 general election, narrowly missing out to 8th placed Senator Philip Ozouf on a recount.
The turnout last night was exceptionally low at around 20%, and in total Senator-elect Ferguson polled 3,649 votes, which is 329 ahead of the lowest ever total in a senatorial by-election: 3,320 polled by Jerry Dorey in 1999.
When she lost her seat in 2014, Sarah Ferguson polled 9,809 votes, nearly three times more than her total tonight when she was actually successful. The turnout in 2014 was 40%. Here’s the moment she realised she had won:
The first result to declare was St Peter at 20:38, and the last St Helier at 22:11.
Stevie Ocean won the race for last place, polling 70 votes, just a few ahead of the lowest ever total achieved by Peter Remon-Whorral of 27 in a by-election in 2010.
