An islander and his ten-year-old son who were looking for something new to do together have started a podcast – where they discuss everything from world wars to window cleaners.

Described as “infantile humour with the odd factoid thrown in”, the ‘Banter for Breakfast’ podcast was created by Adam Freer and his son Scott.

The duo have published several episodes so far, with more on the way.

“We were looking for something to do together,” Adam explained, noting that he and Scott had no previous experience with podcasts – other than listening to them.

But with a little bit of research, some free intro music and AI-generated artwork, Banter for Breakfast was quickly up and running.

“It ended up being super easy to do, and so before I knew it was up there,” said Adam.

“It’s a strange feeling. You just put yourself out there for everyone to hear, with just a couple of clicks of a button.”

Scott said it was his dad’s idea to do the podcast, and that he “thought it would be great idea”.

“It’s just a lot of fun, really and I look forward to keep on bantering with my dad!” he said.

“It makes me happy.”

Adam added: “It’s really learning as we go, and what we don’t want to do is start planning it and turning it into a job and a chore.

“Scott comes up with an idea and then we just sit down and chat about it, it’s all unscripted.”

He described it as “one of the most fun things we have done together”.

Quickfire Q&A…

If you could only ever eat one breakfast, what would it be?

Scott: “Waffles with Nutella, jam, honey – all that stuff.”

Adam: “It would be banter. Banter for Breakfast, constantly. On repeat. Forever! Definitely not eggs after the soundproofing situation.”

Which famous person, dead or alive, would you most want as a guest on the podcast?

Scott: ”Edward the 6th, because he’s a kid like me.”

Adam: “Rasputin – I want to know what he was up to.”

If you had one piece of advice to give someone starting a podcast, what would it be?

Scott: “Make an episode with whatever you want and if the audience likes it, carry on in that direction. If the audience don’t like it, try something else.”

Adam: “Don’t rush and choose rubbish music for you first episode. Choose something you’re passionate about like us with high level banter. Get the equipment right before you start.”
