The company is already dealing with having their new £50 million vessel out of action after an accident on its second day in service – but now their safety video is making headlines in the UK national press for all the wrong reasons.
The Telegraph has branded it an “unbelievably bad rap video” and warns readers it “could be the most embarrassing thing you’ll ever watch” while the Daily Mail questions whether a “rapping captain, superhero staff and some VERY awkward dance moves” make for “the worst safety demonstration of all time.”
“The silky smooth captain, sassy stewardess and street-wise steward” were hired to bring some fun onboard and is part of the company’s brand new mission to provide “Good Times”.
The video is being broadcast on all crossings between Poole and the Channel Islanders and is designed to be fun and catchy with rhymes like “Now ladies, hey ladies, you have to realise sharp objects can’t go on our slide so leave those heels behind” to help passengers remember their safety instructions.
Condor bosses say they are really proud of it and are delighted with the results but most viewers who got to see it on Youtube weren’t impressed – one questioned whether it was an early April Fool while another said they’d immediately use the life jacket to abandon ship if forced to watch it!
The new 102m fast-ferry struck the quay in Guernsey last Saturday while trying to berth in high winds after crossing the Channel from Poole. The ship’s onward journey to Jersey was cancelled and crossings have been cancelled this week because of bad weather.
