A group of first-time DJs will take to the decks this weekend to raise money for a local cancer charity.

The White Collar DJ event, which is being held in support of Macmillan Jersey, will take place on Saturday 15 November at the Royal Yacht Hotel.

Novice DJs have been given a intensive crash-course in music mixing by DJ Spim – a well-known face within Jersey’s dance scene.

On Saturday, their performances will be judged by an expert panel and the audience.

One of the participants Sophie Reid said she decided to take part due to Macmillan’s “amazing” support since her cancer diagnosis.

“DJ Spim’s teaching has been phenomenal, and we have all learnt so much and had so much fun,” she added.

Ruth Hague, who took part last year, said: “I chose to do this because I have always loved music and clubs. I have also had DJ friends, not to mention it is for such a great cause.

“DJ Spim has been a legend and is so patient. We all had fun and always felt welcome.

“My advice for this year’s contestants is to just enjoy it. Feel the music.

“You can easily get caught up on the technicalities of it – so just stay calm and enjoy the crowd.”
