A politician who drove his BMW at around double the speed limit in a 15mph zone and failed to display valid insurance has publicly apologised.
Deputy Philip Ozouf made a personal statement during this morning’s sitting of the States Assembly.
The St Saviour representative was last month fined £575 for driving his silver BMW along Les Ruisseaux – where the speed limit is 15mph – at 31mph.
After being pulled over by an officer, he failed to provide valid motor insurance. The disc displayed in his vehicle expired in June 2023.
Deputy Ozouf subsequently failed to attend three parish hall inquiries.
He pleaded guilty to the offences in the Magistrate’s Court last month, and expressed remorse for his actions.

Addressing States Members this morning, Deputy Ozouf said: “I wish to make a sincere and unreserved apology to the Assembly, my constituents and the people of Jersey.”
Explaining that an “administrative oversight” on his part had led to the “missed opportunity” to resolve the matter at parish level, Deputy Ozouf said the incident occurred around the anniversary of family events that had been “profoundly difficult and changed [his] life dramatically”.
The former External Relations Minister told his fellow politicians he was now better able to navigate the pressures of public life, and the high standards expected of an elected official.
“I now have extra support and guidance to avoid falling short in the future,” he added.
Deputy Ozouf concluded his two-minute statement by saying: “I apologise without reservation and hope I may continue to serve with focus and commitment for the remainder of this political term.”
