Money confiscated from criminals has been used to fund a new training facility for police firearms officers.
The States of Jersey Police opened the Firearms Range and Tactical Training Centre at Crabbe yesterday.
The range will be shared with the wider shooting community, and be available to competitors and overseas police forces.
The centre will allow police officers to train and qualify to national firearms standards in Jersey, which removes the need “for costly and disruptive travel to the UK”.
The facility includes purpose-built “skills house” which offers a “safe and realistic environment” to practice tactics.
At the opening yesterday, authorised firearms officers demonstrated a scenario involving an unhappy office worker threatening work colleagues with a knife.
