This year’s Jersey International Air Display received £100,000 in government funding, it has emerged.
The event, which took place on Thursday 10 September, suffered delays and the loss of four aircraft due to adverse weather conditions.
The RAF Falcons, Lockheed Electra, Aero Superbatics, and Royal Navy Wildcat were unable to feature in the display.
The £100,000 government grant for 2025 took the total amount of public funding given to the Air Display to £200,000 in the past three years – after it was awarded £60,000 in 2023 and a further £40,000 last year.
A number of other public events have also received significant public funding to help them go ahead, with the Jersey Festival of Words receiving £80,000 in each of the last two years as well as £63,000 in 2023 while it had already been confirmed that the Battle of Flowers had been given £158,750 in 2025 and £270,000 the year before.
Responding to a written question from Deputy Louise Doublet, Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel outlined several major events which received government funding.
Channel Islands Pride received £49,500 in 2023, £10,000 the following year and £55,000 this year, while almost £100,000 has been spent on the Corn Riots Festival across the three years.
The 13th Parish film festival has received £25,000 annually between 2023 and 2025, the Lunar New Year was handed £49,474 in 2023, £33,223 in 2024 and £20,000 this year, while Dreaming Trees got £112,000 across the three years.
Deputy Morel said: “Government grants to large public events are assessed based on the business cases submitted to the Department for the Economy and informed by the post-event reports from previous years (where applicable).
“They are also dependent on the available budgets and funding capacity of the Department and the ability for the organisation seeking funding to demonstrate that the event supports desirable island outcomes from the CSP (Common Strategic Policy), Island Outcome Indicators and/or specific published government strategies.”
