The Government has said it “stands ready” to support the loss-making Battle of Flowers – with the Economic Development Minister confirming he will be working with the association to “secure the long-term future of the event”.
Deputy Kirsten Morel – who oversees the arts, heritage, and culture budget – told Express that efforts are underway to support the annual parade, which has been operating at a loss for several years.

The Minister said: “The Battle holds significant cultural and community importance to Jersey and we will continue to assist efforts to secure its sustainable future.
“We’re awaiting a grant request for 2025 and stand ready to support this.
“The volunteers work hard to put the Battle on each year and I will be working with their association to secure the long-term future of the event.”
The 2024 event, which featured a three-day programme including performances by UK music stars Sam Ryder and Marti Pellow, received a £270,000 government grant – up from £150,000 in 2023.

At the time, Deputy Morel told Express that the increased funding was aimed at addressing the “headwinds” facing the event since the pandemic and providing organisers with the means to “re-invigorate” it for a new generation of islanders and tourists.

The Minister’s pledge comes as the event faces mounting financial pressures. Express understands that exhibitors have still not been paid for last year’s event.
An emergency meeting was held in St Ouen’s Parish Hall yesterday but access was restricted to members only. A public Annual General Meeting is due to follow.
Express has contacted Jersey Battle of Flowers Association Chair Russell Labey for comment.
