Organisers say they’ve had a lot of interest in hockey locally since Team GB’s women won gold in Rio last month and there are now almost 600 team members playing across the Island.
They are expecting over 250 players this weekend, a final score line reaching into the thousands and are hoping to raise thousands to help pay for their new Clubhouse too.
Jersey Hockey player Phil Cuming said: “I’m both excited and apprehensive about the night shift! Eight hours of non-stop hockey will be a gruelling task, but it is one I’m looking forward to and hopefully will encourage support for the building of our new Clubhouse.”
The pros will be giving a demo to those who haven’t played before at 13:00 and then they’ll be offered the chance to play in the first hour of the Hockey-a-thon.
The men’s and women’s Island sides start their England Hockey Trophy campaigns next month and the Junior and Master’s sides begin their knockout competition campaigns this Autumn too.
Rathbones have committed to supporting the sport locally for the next three seasons, sponsorship that will help the men’s and women’s teams drive forward with their campaigns off-Island.
