The Lieutenant Governor officially reopened St. Aubin-based Sanctuary House last week.

The 10-bedroom property was previously a 1970s guesthouse, and has now been made fit for the modern day according to the charity.

Benefiting from private donations described as “generous”, the property has now had its plumbing renewed, electrics rewired, and had better sound and thermal insulation installed.

Fire precaution measures have also been upgraded.

While the property work was ongoing 14 men were accommodated at Sanctuary Lodge in St. Peter, which is usually made available to those moving towards independence after spending time at Sanctuary House.

Following the opening ceremony last week, the property is now open once again to support homeless men in crisis.

There, staff will be able to provide counselling, as well as sessions teaching them crucial life skills such as cooking and budgeting.

Brett Cutts, Sanctuary House’s General Manager, commented: “During the refurbishment project we have tried our best to offer a home and hope for men who have needed us, but demand has been such that it can’t always been possible.

“We are delighted to reopen our doors in time for Christmas.”
