New figures released following a request under the Freedom of Information Law showed that there were now 84 students being homeschooled locally – a rise of nearly 50% in the past five years, and 20% between the 2022/23 and 2023/24 academic years alone.

It follows a post-pandemic trend also observed in other jurisdictions.

It was previously reported that the number of UK parents choosing to homeschool their children in England had increased by 34% between 2018 and 2022.

One parent previously told Express that he decided to make the change for his children after “lockdown gave us the [homeschooling] experience that we realised was the right one”.

Part of the attraction is being able to give greater one-to-one support, the parent said, having been concerned that children who need extra help often struggle to find time for more personal assistance.

He also expressed concerns that not all children could thrive in an academic environment.
