There are currently over 350 million people living with viral hepatitis and more than one million lives are lost each year to the disease – but it can be prevented or controlled if diagnosed early enough.

Dr Rajesh Hembrom – Jersey’s Consultant and Lead in Sexual Health and Blood Borne Viruses – said: “It is important that islanders are tested for hepatitis as some people may not even know they have it.

“There is a lot of stigma around hepatitis, however, it is not something to be embarrassed about as it can affect anyone, irrespective of age, gender, and race.

“If found early, serious health problems can be prevented. I fully encourage everyone and anyone to book a test as it could save your life.”

Free tests at the Hospital can be booked by calling 444319 or emailing BBV@health.gov.je.
