An islander has placed in the top 15% of his age range after competing in the annual championship race of the Ironman triathlon series in the French Riviera.

The Ironman World Championship men’s race took place on 14 September 2025 in Nice, France.

The event featured a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and 26.2-mile run in temperatures of up to 25°C.

“I enjoy the run element the most, so when I had finished the biking I was very relieved that it was time to get going with the marathon.”

Jersey finance worker Jonny Amy said: “It was phenomenal, a tough day out.

“It was very challenging because of the course elevation on the bike element. I was going there just to make sure that I complete it.

“As Nice is predominantly known as one of the hardest Ironman races, it was going to be a challenge. This year was good experience and getting exposure to a more competitive race.”

Mr Amy said that he spent over 20 hours training in the weeks leading up to the event, alongside his full-time job in finance.

“I’ve got a good team around me that helps and supplements my training and food plan,” he said.

Mr Amy previously competed in Ironman races, including last year’s competition in Barcelona, and hopes to travel to Loire Valley next year for the Ironman Tours.

He said: “It is something I’m hugely passionate about, it kind of comes as second nature to me. I surround myself with a lot of like-minded people.

“We’re all on the same page, and have a great training group through the Jersey Triathlon Club, the kind of people who hold you accountable.

“On race day, I checked my phone after the race and the amount of love and support I had received from everyone from all parts of the world was amazing.”
