Parents and carers are being encouraged to “remain vigilant” after a primary school pupil was allegedly approached by an unknown man at pick-up time.
The incident, which is said to have taken place at Grouville School, is being investigated by police.
The Education Department said it was aware of an incident on Monday “in which a Year 6 pupil was approached by an unknown man after school in Grouville”.
“The child responded appropriately, and the individual left the area,” the statement continued.
“This has been reported to the police who are investigating the matter.
“We encourage parents and carers to remain vigilant and continue reminding children not to engage with strangers and to seek help from a trusted adult if they feel unsafe.
“The safety of our students remains our top priority.”

In an email to all parents of children at Grouville School, headteacher Nichola Turner said the child “was approached by an unknown man who claimed ‘I know your mum and I’ve come to pick you up’.”
“Thankfully, the child responded responsibly and firmly with ‘no, thank you’, which caused the man to leave quickly.”
Mrs Turner added that the police had been contacted and asked all parents and carers to “remain vigilant and talk to their children about the importance of not engaging with strangers”.
“Please remind your child to always seek help from a trusted adult if anyone unfamiliar approaches them,” she continued. “Thank you for your support in keeping our children safe.”
The police have asked anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to contact them on 612612, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via the anonymous online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
