Jersey Airport has apologised after an out-of-service security scanner caused a “number” of people to miss their flights this morning.

Passengers reported large queues snaking back to the entrance of the building.

Airport operations manager Eddie Afonso said: “We’re sorry for the disruption this morning at Jersey Airport.

“We know that queues at security were longer than normal, and unfortunately a small number of people missed their flights.

“That’s not the experience we want for anyone. All affected passengers are now on their way.”

Mr Afonso explained that the problem was caused by a security scanner being out of service, which slowed down screening for early departures.

“We deployed extra team members to help, but we recognise that for some, it wasn’t enough,” he said.

The scanner has now been repaired and is back in service.

Commenting on social media, Steve Wise described the situation as a “shambles”.

“There was minimal communication,” he said. “I arrived at 06:00 and the queue was at the door.

“We were told that no one would miss their flight and then told if we had a 07:00 departure to move through the queue.

“The problem was there were three full flights at 07:00 and most of the queue were waiting for those flights.”

He added: “It’s not good enough and the management need to do better in future, particularly with regards to communication.”
