IN PICTURES: ‘Beautiful Jersey’ sends Sadie on her way

The iconic ‘Beautiful Jersey’ singer and cattle farmer, Constable Sadie Le Sueur-Rennard, sadly passed away last month and her funeral service was held at St. Saviour’s Parish Church yesterday afternoon before a private internment.

Constable Le Sueur-Rennard’s oak casket was fittingly draped in a Jersey flag, carried by horsedrawn carriage.

To the tune of the song she was best known for performing at Liberation Day, it was carried into a room filled to the brim with family members, former colleagues and loved ones.

But they weren’t the only ones saying goodbye – the service was live-streamed online, with some tuning in from as far afield as Nashville, where the country music fan Constable would take an annual pilgrimage, having been made an honorary citizen of Tennessee and given the keys to the city in 1974.

The service was led by the Parish Rector, Reverend Martin Evans, and Jersey Methodist Circet Minister Reverend Tony Morling, while prayers were also offered by the Dean of Jersey, the Very Rev Mike Keirle. Alan Mollet was the organist.
