A loud bang and screeching tyres startled witnesses on St Saviour’s Road when a young pizza delivery driver crashed into the back of another car – in what would become his second conviction for careless driving.
But 21-year-old Jedson Landers managed to avoid a driving ban when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this week.
The Domino’s worker was behind the wheel of his green Ford Fiesta when he collided with a grey Citroën near the junction with Brooklyn Street at around 6pm on 8 October last year.
St Helier Centenier Jane Pearce told the Magistrate’s Court that a witness reported hearing “tyres screeching and a loud bang” as the crash occurred on the wet road.

Both drivers were breathalysed at the scene, but neither had alcohol in their system.
The court heard that Landers had three previous motoring offences within a year of passing his test, including a prior conviction for careless driving that saw him fined £1,300.
He had taken the Domino’s job to pay off that fine.
Advocate Julia-Anne Dix, defending, said her client had “nearly” settled the previous fine and was “deeply distressed” by the latest offence, calling it a “brief lapse of judgment.”
However, Relief Magistrate Sarah Fitz handed Landers a £1,500 fine and endorsed his licence for three years, warning: “If you are convicted for another motoring offence, the court will be minded to disqualify you.”
