Two former States Members are plotting returns to the States after confirming they will stand in this summer’s election.

Channel 103 breakfast show presenter Peter McLinton is standing in the St Lawrence, St John and Trinity district, having previously served one term between 2014 and 2018 as a St Saviour Deputy.

Meanwhile, Steve Pallett is seeking a return to the St Brelade Constable seat that he held for seven years.

Mr Pallett was first elected to the States in 2011, before successfully standing as a Senator at the 2018 election. He narrowly lost his place in the States in 2022 when contesting the St Brelade Deputy election.

Posting on social media, Mr McLinton – better known to his listeners as Peter Mac – said that he was standing because he believes politics in Jersey can be improved.

“I’m doing it because I think we can do politics better: fairer, calmer, and a lot more focused on getting things done, without turning neighbours into ‘sides’. No blame-fests, no tribal nonsense — just practical solutions that make everyday life better. We’re all in this together (whether we like it or not), so we might as well act like it,” he said.

Mr Pallett, who has previously been the political lead for sports in the States, said that he was standing for Constable after “being prompted by many parishioners”.

He said: “I was fortunate to serve as Constable of St Brelade between 2011 and 2018 before stepping down and running successfully as a Senator.

“During my three terms as a States Member I served within Government, holding several assistant minister roles, and on various Scrutiny panels.

“I believe my experience puts me in good stead after the election to face the challenges both within the parish and islandwide at a critical time both economically and socially for Jersey.”

Mr Pallett added: “During my previous time as Constable, I hope parishioners will remember that I always put our community at the heart of what I did and decisions I made.

“It is important to me that parishioners going forward have a Constable who is available to listen to their concerns and act in the best interests of St Brelade.

“If elected in June, I intend to involve the community in St Brelade  as much as possible in decisions that affect the parish, such as the long overdue refurbishment  of the Elephant Park and also how best to use the fantastic facilities at Les Creux Country Park.”

The election will take place on Sunday 7 June.
