An islander who has volunteered for a local first-aid charity for more than 15 years has received royal recognition for his service.
St John Ambulance member Alan Guy has been promoted to Commander in the Order of St John.
Mr Guy has been a “dedicated member” of St John Ambulance since August 2010, playing a “key role” in the charity’s youth programmes and serving as its Safeguarding Lead.
In 2021, the former police inspector was appointed Commandry President and joined the charity’s Board of Trustees.
On behalf of the King, the Duke of Gloucester this month approved Mr Guy’s promotion to the title of Commander in the Order of St John of Jerusalem.
The rank is awarded in recognition for significant contributions to St John Ambulance and its charitable work.
“I am delighted and deeply honoured to receive this recognition,” said Mr Guy.
“It has been a privilege to serve both St John and the wider community, and I look forward to continuing that service in the years ahead.”
Following Mr Guy’s promotion, Mandy Hussey has taken on his former role as Commandry President.
She will provide honorary and ambassadorial leadership, and work closely with Mr Guy to represent St John Ambulance in the community.
