Peter Wright and Steve Hayes will be sprinting around Durrell tomorrow and want visitors to chuck water on them to replicate the conditions they’ll face in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest in a few weeks’ time.
The pair will be starting their six-day 254km run through the jungle in the state of Parà on 1 October when they’ll be carrying their own food and equipment in 40 degree heat and 99% humidity and through mud and insects to try to raise as much money as possible for Durrell.
They said: “We are both regular visitors to Durrell and whole heartedly support their initiatives. Not only their tireless work saving endangered species worldwide but also their drive to educate and support the development of local communities across the globe.
“Their conservation programmes are moving species away from the threat of extinction, without which some animals would almost certainly have become extinct.”
They’ll be running around the Wildlife Park from 9am until 4pm on Saturday and are also organising a raffle and a scavenger hunt to help kick-start their fundraising.
