Gail explained that the sleepy seal is “quite well known among the surfers in the bay for popping up now and then”.
In Gail’s picture, the seal is doing something known as ‘bottling’.

Pictured:Â Sharing the photo in the Jersey Wildlife Facebook group, Gail said that she “spent a wonderful hour sitting on a rock watching this handsome fella drift about in front of me”.
This is when seals bob around vertically with their head just above the surface of the water in order to rest at sea whilst out foraging for days at a time.
Seals can also rest horizontally in a similar way, which is know as ‘logging’.
