The Channel Islands supermarket group, Alliance, is about to open up shop seven days a week in Sand Street – with 25 new jobs on offer.

Work has been going on all summer to fit out the store that cost the food retailer over £2 million to buy on the former Bissons and Horseplay site.

No one knows yet when the store will officially open but when it does it will be selling Tesco-branded products.

Their slogan says “Every little helps” and branching out into Jersey should be a little help to the world’s second-largest retailer that’s battling to turn around a disastrous year of dropping sales.

The products are already selling well in Alliance’s Guernsey store.

Alliance’s Managing Director Andrew Bagot said: “We know from our experience in Guernsey, where we have been selling the full Tesco range, that Channel Island customers are very keen on these products.

“We think that it’s a great time to be investing in retail and creating jobs in Jersey – that’s why we’re confident about what we’re doing.”

The company has planning permission for a second store costing £30 million on the Ann Street site and work is due to start on it next summer.

Mr Bagot said: “Ultimately, we’re planning to bring some much-needed competition to the food retail sector – something that various reports have called for over the years – and to put money back into peoples’ pockets.”

Alliance used to run a Cash & Carry at Grève d’Azette in St Clement and currently sell the Cook range in the Island.
