Families across the island are invited to a free children’s martial arts experience and junior kickboxing tournament.
The Samurai Fitness Group Jersey have split their event into two parts, in order to make it accessible for children who are new to the world of martial arts, and those with more experience.
The event will take place at the Royal Jersey Agricultural & Horticultural Society on Sunday 25 January.
From 9:00 to 11:00, children aged 4 to 7 can take part in a martial arts taster session, designed as a first introduction.
Children will take part in playful, structured activities designed to help them feel braver in their own bodies, try something new, and experience the pride that comes from giving things a go.
Through games, movement and simple martial arts challenges, focussed on building balance, coordination and listening skills, the morning will serve as a chance to make new friends, and expand on social skills.
All activities are non-contact, and each child who takes part will receive a participation medal.
Families interested in attending the morning session are encouraged to arrive early for registration.
From 11:30 onwards, the event will transition into the Samurai Kickboxing Tournament for children aged 7-16.
The structured tournament will give young people the opportunity to demonstrate skills they have developed in class in a safe environment.
Events include high kick challenges, power and technique demonstrations, flying kick competitions, and controlled sparring for appropriately graded and equipped students – with medals awarded across multiple categories.
The tournament will be run by The Samurai Fitness Group’s experienced intructor team and supported by assistants, volunteers and a café on site, parents and spectators are welcome throughout the day.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Founder of The Samurai Fitness Group Jersey, Matt Collins said: “This day is about giving children the chance to feel proud of themselves – whether that’s trying martial arts for the very first time in the morning, or testing their skills in the afternoon tournament.
The free Little Samurai session is particularly important to us, as it removes barriers and lets families see how martial arts can build confidence, focus and friendships.”
