Derek Maltwood was a former President of the Harbours and Airport Committee and Vice-President of Finance and Economics during an unbroken period in the States Assembly as Deputy of St. Mary from 1987 to 2002.
In addition to chairing the States-owned Jersey Electricity company – whose board he first joined as a States appointee in 1988, standing down as Chair 20 years later – Mr Maltwood gave his time to a number of island organisations, particularly in the cultural sphere.
He was a former Jersey Opera House Chair, a trustee of Jersey Heritage and a member of the Jersey Archive’s public records panel, in addition to being appointed a councillor for the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust.
After retiring from the States as parish Deputy, he was a Procureur du Bien Public in St. Mary.
We are saddened to have learned today about the death of Derek Maltwood.
Derek was Deputy of St Mary from 1987 until 2002.

A stockbroker by profession, Mr Maltwood was also a past chairman of the Institute of Directors in Jersey.

The States Assembly tweeted that it was “saddened” to hear of Mr Maltwood’s death, and said its “condolences go to his loved ones at this difficult time”.
Deputy Lyndon Farnham, who worked with Mr Maltwood between 1999 and 2002, expressed his condolences on Twitter:
I was very saddened to learn of the passing of former Deputy Derek Maltwood. I served with Derek from 1999 to 2002. I particularly remember his induction briefing, in his role as President of the House Committee, to all new members. We gathered in the States Assembly, on our… https://t.co/DIyw2C0GCz
