Two “vulnerable” seal pups were rescued in Jersey this weekend.

On Saturday 8 November, the team at British Divers Marine Life Rescue Jersey were called to rescue two pups at opposite ends of the island.

The first one was a “tiny female”, weighing just 16kg, who was washed up at St Catherine.

In a post on social media, BDMLR Jersey said: “She was covered in flies, very underweight, dehydrated and had multiple small wounds.

“To have a chance to survive alone she would need to be at least 30kg and have had a good three weeks with mum.”

The second pup was a 15kg male pup found at the top of the slipway at L’Etacq.

“Neither would survive back out in the wild at the size they are,” according to BDMLR Jersey.

Both pups were taken to the New Era Veterinary Hospital for treatment.
