The Reverend Mark Barrett submitted two planning applications in late January, detailing the work needed to repair First Tower-based St. Andrew’s Church, which was built in the 1920s.
The applications are being handled by Gallaher Architects Limited, with engineering reports made by Craig Hook Consulting Limited.
One application looks at St Andrew’s Bell Tower, with the report saying the roof requires “urgent attention”.

It says the works are necessary because “there has been ingress of water into the church tower”, causing damp and erosion to spread inside.
The second application focuses on cracks to the Church’s façade and concrete mullion.
The report explains: “The façade cracks are probably the result of poor design or construction. The weight of roof is pushing down on the wall plate (top of the wall).”
The mullion crack should therefore “be repaired as soon as possible”, the report recommends.
“A large portion of the concrete could fall off without any warning. It is uncertain how long it will be before it spalls off,” it added.
Both applications remain under consideration.
