The victim of a former teacher who abused his position to commit a string of sexual offences has been praised for their “courage” as the offender was jailed for three years and four months.

Alan Geoffrey Falle appeared before the Royal Court this morning.

He had previously admitted 12 counts of abuse of trust by a sexual act under the Sexual Offences (Jersey) Law 2018.

Guilty pleas

The offences were committed while he was still a teacher.

He was remanded in custody after pleading guilty to all 12 charges in November

The case was committed to Royal Court for sentencing by the Superior Number, which only convenes for the Island’s most serious cases.

The sentencing was held in the Magistrate’s Court building at 9am this morning before Deputy Bailiff Mark Temple.

Falle was also sentenced to seven years on the Sex Offenders’ Register.

“A profound and lasting impact”

Following the sentencing, the States of Jersey Police said in a statement: “Today marks the conclusion of a distressing process for the victim, our thoughts are firmly with them. Coming forward in such circumstances requires immense courage.

“Offences of this nature have a profound and lasting impact, not only on the victim but also on families, peers, and the wider community.”

The force added: “The States of Jersey Police remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting victims of offences of this nature, ensuring they feel fully supported throughout the criminal justice process and that they have access to appropriate support through our specialist partner agencies.”
