Jamaican iguanas are due to arrive at Jersey Zoo in time for summer.
The critically endangered species will be housed in a new enclosure, which is part of the butterfly house.
Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust curator of herpetology and invertebrates Ciaran Westgate said: “Contractors and the zoo team have been really hard at work preparing this enclosure for the new species.”
He added that more work is currently underway on the former tortoise area, adding a glass screen, plants, rocks, and logs.
“We’ll give you an update soon about when they [the Jamaican iguanas] will be arriving at the zoo,” said Ciaran.
“But for now, the butterfly tunnel will be open for the Easter holidays so you can come and see all of the work that we’ve been doing here.”
