‘World Porridge Day’ will next month see several piping hot porridge stands set up in different locations throughout town in aid of a charity mission to provide a daily meal to impoverished schoolchildren in 12 different countries.
Stations at Charing Cross, West’s Centre, the Pomme D’Or, the Esplanade and on King’s Street will be serving a range of different porridge flavours – all for charity.
Islanders can order from a range of different flavours and help feed a hungry child elsewhere in the world.

The morning is a collaboration between the Rotary Club of Jersey and a ‘Mary’s Meals’ which runs school feeding programmes to give children struggling with poverty a daily meal to ensure they have the energy and opportunity to learn. The porridge will be made with local milk provided by Jersey Dairy and toppings provided by the Co-Op.
Some offices will also have individual porridge stations set up inside their buildings.
The Rotary Club – which was established in 1924 – is an organisation with an ethos of giving something back with a focus on the local community.
A team of community volunteers run the feeding programmes in 12 different countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean and they all take turns to prepare, cook and serve the daily meal in each school.

This is the eighth year that the Rotary Club has organised this event in Jersey and they say that it has become “very popular,” raising thousands of pounds annually for the world’s poorest communities.
Porridge stations will be set up at Charing Cross and Liberation Square.
Porridge Day will be taking place between 07:30 and 10:00 on 10 October this year.
