The States Members’ Remuneration Review Body is looking for three new members to decide on questions like how much politicians should get paid, how their expenses should work, whether there should be a pension scheme and whether they should get paid different amounts depending on what job they do.
There’s a catch of course: you won’t get paid for the work.
States Members currently receive £46,600 per year – that sum covers their remuneration and expenses. But ministers can also clock up thousands of pounds worth of expenses in line with their departmental work – in 2013 one minister spent £32,328 on travel and hospitality.
The panel is looking for new members, and they’re casting a wide net – they say that they’re seeking a diverse group of members with a range of different skills and experience, and the deadline for people to get in touch is Monday.
