Zara hits Jersey’s high street – for a good cause

The bad news is that Jersey is not getting its own Zara store, but the good news is that islanders can now find brand new Zara clothes at bargain prices locally, as the retailer’s excess stock can now be found in Jersey’s British Red Cross charity shop.

Zara-branded clothes started appearing in British Red Cross charity shops across the UK at the end of last year, but this month marks the first time the brand’s clothes have made their way to the Jersey branch.

The staff in Jersey’s British Red Cross shop, situated at Snow Hill, said that they had already had a noticeable growth in customers and sales since the arrival of the Zara items.

Fashion retailer Zara launched the partnership with the British Red Cross in 2022 as part of a used clothing collection project which is part of the brand’s “commitment to circularity” in the amount of waste generated by fast fashion.

As part of Zara’s “social and environmental commitment”, the project “aims to promote the recovery of used garments to extend their useful life while generating a positive impact in your community”.

Most Zara stores in the UK now feature clothes collection points where customers can donate items of clothing they no longer need.

Garments donated through this scheme are given to the British Red Cross, who sort the clothes and recycle fabrics to raise funds.
