Joe Streeting is part of a group participating in a “Hero Workout”, a 24-hour CrossFit challenge. The goal is to complete one workout every hour, each dedicated to a fallen CrossFit community member.
A Hero Workout, (often referred to as a Hero WOD), is an exceptionally tough exercise routine named to honour fallen service members, police, or firefighters.
It’s designed to be extremely demanding, pushing participants physically and mentally, often combining high-volume bodyweight, running, and/or weightlifting, usually completed “for time.”
The workouts tend to be done as a tribute and a test of endurance, and are described as “notoriously tough”. They involve high-intensity movements like pull-ups and deadlifts, and aim to be enhanced by a competitive class environment.
Although they’re designed to be tough, Streeting says they can be taken on by anyone with the right attitude;
“They tend to be a bit harder than the normal ones, but they are still just as fun, and they can be made so anyone can do them. So if anyone wanted to join in, for any hour, whether that’s four o’clock in the afternoon or four o’clock in the morning, they’re more than welcome to join in with those.”

As part of their challenge at the start of next month, (2 August 2025), Streeting aims to raise £1,000 for the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation, but thanks to some support, he’s now looking to double that;
“I’m a crossfit coach, but I’m also a veterinary nurse as well. My boss has chosen to sponsor and support the event, and whatever happens, he’s putting in 1000 pounds as well. So we’ve already raised, in theory, just over 1500 pounds, but if we get over 2000 pounds, I would be ecstatic.”
Streeting says he was inspired by social media challenges and personally connected to the charity due to his healthy baby boy, and the thoughts of ‘what if’;
“After the birth of my son, luckily, we were very lucky, he was a healthy baby boy. He waited a little bit longer to come out, but he was born absolutely healthy.

Streeting continued: “When you have a newborn, that’s already quite a stressful time. Even if they are healthy, it’s an amazing time, but a stressful time. I just couldn’t even imagine what parents could be going through, whether it’s they’re born premature, or they have health conditions, or having to watch them undergo procedures, or having to be taken to Southampton. I can’t even imagine this, the stress that must put them under.”
“Luckily, we have the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation as a local charity. I knew those are the people that I want to support.”
