Action began in Budapest on 10 September and runs until 23rd with 11 rounds to be played.

The competition is currently in the seventh.

In Round 2 Guernsey’s women played against Seychelles and won convincingly 4 – 0, Pauline Woodward taking victory on her debut at the Olympiad in a complicated game that saw many fluctuations of fortune.

In Round 4 Guernsey women drew with Guyana 2-2, with wins coming from Arita Strade and Gerda Nevska.

They went on to beat Lichtenstein 4-0 before losing to El Salvador.

The Open Team were paired against strong nations in the first three rounds, but managed a 2-2 draw against St Vincent & Grenadines in the fourth.

Garth Owen also had a winning debut at the Olympiad, after winning a pawn in the middlegame he eventually converted in a long game.

Toby Brookfield was the other winner in a spectacular finish; he sacrificed his queen for a forced checkmate.

They have followed up with a 2-2 draw with Gabon and a 3-1 win against Sierra Leone.
