With a tough run of fixtures to come in March, Guernsey FC will be disappointed to let a hard earned lead slip away at Footes Lane yesterday.
It was a bright opening for the Green Lions, a stark contrast to their loss to Rayners Lane last time out.
Guernsey’s opener on 19 minutes was sharp.
Charlton Gauvain had won a free-kick in the middle of the Horndean half, disguised a pass into the channel for Ross Allen, who swiveled and buried the ball into the far corner.
The equaliser came from substitute Daniel Sibley, on for Ryan Keates who left the field after a long spell of treatment for a shoulder injury.
As the second half moved on, Guernsey FC went more direct. On 72 minutes a misjudged header let Gauvain in to score.
But the Green Lions could not take control to see the result through.
Horndean pressed on and 90 minutes in captain Ethan Robb volleyed home after the Guernsey defense failed to clear.
The local fans’ hearts were firmly in their mouths when Zackery Willets hit the post as the game drew to a close.
Guernsey FC are fourth from bottom, three points off South Park Reigate and Metropolitan Police with two and three games in hand respectively.
They play Raynes Park Vale away on Saturday.
